Bottle/Closed Gentian
Bottle/Closed Gentian (Gentiana andrewsii)
Bottle Gentian has bottle-like deep blue flowers that add gorgeous colour to your late season garden. When in bloom in September or October, it is pollinated exclusively by bumblebees who have the strength needed to pry open the closed flowers. It grows 1 to 2 feet with fibrous roots. It is a beautiful accent for mostly sunny sites in moist soils, is slow-growing, but long-lived once established. Great companions with other late bloomers such as New England Aster and Goldenrod.
