A backyard native prairie garden
This project was quite enjoyable to work on. Before planting, our client spent an entire summer preparing the flowerbed and meticulously weeding out all unwanted grass and weeds. Rain gardens were constructed under garage downspouts to catch rain water for wetland plants.

....Backyard in 2009 Prairie Flora aided in planting the native prairie plants and in the prairie garden design for placement of prairie wildflowers and grasses. The prairie garden design takes into account changing conditions of even this small landscape. It includes an attractive backdrop of tall native prairie wildflowers and grasses along the back fence, prairie plants that love the wet and dry conditions of rain gardens, and others that will find a suitable home beneath the shade of a large tree. Approximately 36 species of native prairie wildflowers and prairie grasses were used.

Credentials We are continuously updating our knowledge of sustainable prairie landscapes so we can pass it on to our customers. Prairie Flora's greenhouse manager, Aimee, is currently taking a Permaculture Design Course certified by the International Permaculture Institute.
As described by Bill Mollison and Reny Mia Slay in their book, "Introduction to Permaculture," "Permaculture is about designing sustainable human settlements through ecology and design. It is a philosophy and an approach to land use which weaves together microclimates, annual and perennial plants, animals, soils, water management and human needs into intricately connected productive communities."
